WTF!!?! This team got Musical, went screw this, got on the piss and then filmed the result, with some added musical elements where they repeatedly sang 'Pussy' to somehow convince the world this was a musical. I suspect the R rating got this movie pushed to the Sunday 7pm screening rather than its original heat but sadly a 5-6 year old still got subjected to this mess.

The last couple of years the team has been pushing the boundaries, and this year drew the dreaded musical genre which had a much harder time being pigeonholed into their cinema verite/Harmony Korineish drug haze style. I must admit the harmonised opening song made me think that the team might at least give it a fairly decent go, but I was mistaken as it descended into sordid drug taking (I can understand others getting upset about the realistic class A use given there were kids in the audience and surprisingly no warning before the film played) and a surreal mess with scattered camerawork and no discernible plot. There was the potential I thought for this to be an original crazy take on sexual discussion, but I was unfortunately proven wrong.

This film was cool!!! Don't listen to these silly boobs worrying about mothers and children; they're only interested in maintaining the status quo. The film ticked all the boxes, it wasn't afraid to be a little different in the way it used the elements, they didn't need to continually say "I’m tired" or "I wish I could sleep" repeatedly, they just went straight in... there was no 'final sleep resolve shot’, which was refreshing. It showed a night with an insomniac and his friends.. Was it really that hard for people to follow? It's life isn't it? As far as musical goes.. You nailed it... there was singing and dancing.. That’s all I expect from a musical! Sordid drug taking? I'm pretty sure there were 3 or 4 films containing 'sordid drug use' on the night.. And to be honest, it's hardly shocking.. It’s a reality.. Reality = people take drugs.. What about the guy jacking off to porn in his living room? Again.. Another reality! Didn't hear Dan Slevin crying, "think of the children" there.. Come on.. Are we adults here or what? Is this Lollipops 48 hour film fest? Spare me. The film was hardly challenging, but it's interesting to see the reaction from the first 2 reviewers.. Ever watched an episode of Girls???

I really enjoyed Pussy. These are young kids with a passion for film, and although its not done in the 'classic' style a musical film is done in, I like the experimental aspect of it. Musical is a really difficult genre to get, and I found the song catchy and I liked its simplicity. They had some really good shots in the film, such as the first shot with the blue smoke, and some of the dance sequence shots, as well some good dialogue. I enjoy that they pushed the limits and that a major theme in the film was exploring what is and isn't appropriate in a film. I think they may possibly have been trying to show how simple words and minor misbehavior (for lack of a better word) is sometimes seen as more heinous in our society than say, gore or erotica. I enjoy that they explored the theme of sexuality without ever even taking their clothes off or imitating sex, and yet people were still horrified. I also think its great how they used a lot of symbolism, instead of straight out explaining the plot, which leaves the viewer wondering what they may have been trying to get across, and is therefore up for interpretation. I have my own idea of what it was about, but I won't explain, I'll leave that to you guys. Its great that they leave it up to you to figure out, rather than spoon feeding you everything like traditional films do. I find it to be more intellectually stimulating, and it sparks discussion about the film. You don't just watch it and go 'Yep, its done, I know it all, onto the next film', you ponder on it. They ticked all the boxes, got it in on time, edited it, they clearly wanted to do this and put in as much effort as anyone else. Just because its experimental, doesn't mean it wasn't planned or that they didn't try. I also thought the rating was appropriate. I've seen way more 'inappropriate' films with an M rating. Films don't have to be traditional. Films are an expression, and I think this film was more expressive than most I've seen.

Crane Style did it again! Mind and eye candy. First Legend of Levin, then Daemon, KTC and now Pussy! Love their work!

Saddened to hear that Dan was such a prick when this film was screened in heats, guess he was stressed out. Pussy was a'ite and the characters featured were far more interesting and easier to empathise with than any of the one-dimensional cookie cut-outs we often see in entries that actually win the competition. Slowly beginning to doubt the integrity of the organisers. Also, this was horribly edited.

Just really strange? More of a documentary I think?

I'm glad I didn't pay to watch this. Not a musical. Not a story. Not a lot of point in watching it in my view.

I didn't like it.
