In a really strong heat, the Hybrid film was simultaneously the darkest, and most thoughtful work on display. Using insomnia as motivation, and the occult as the method - the plot delves deep into the hero's past trauma, and unravels it for us without any clumsy exposition or dialogue. Emotive cinematography (if quite dark at times) complimented a really well laid-out film that requires it's audience to engage in order to follow the narrative - which we found really appropriate for a horror film.

This film looked beautiful and was so scary! I didnt quite understand what was going on at some points but that just added to the fear factor for me.

I'm not sure if it came together into a cohesive narrative but it sure was good fun. Tone wise it was brilliant, kept wondering where they got all the cameras from..

Of all the films in the heat, I think this one nailed its genre the best. Beautifully shot and acted, the ominous tone was established from the opening shot and never let up. Seriously dark and genuinely creepy.

Technically impressive as always from this team. I felt a little bit lost with the main character's journey and what was going on but they nailed the genre and there were some genuinely scary moments in there.

When it started I thought this could be something special, great art direction in the occult scene, genuinely creepy tone from the get go. Ultimately though the storyline needed an extra something (I don't know what, maybe in the second act) especially since the performances all round were really solid. As others have said they totally nailed the genre, more than any team I've seen so far this year. Great edit and looked gorgeous which is expected from this team, although a little too dark in the grade or output, couldn't tell what was going on in a few shots, that is if it weren't for the absolutely STUNNNING sound design. They have a prize for that this year? Should also win scream of the year.

These guys always make great films. Their films have a great sense of mood to them. This was another beautifully crafted and really well told story. Great acting and all round production values. Stoked these guys are in our heat.

Video: 3.5/5 Audio: 3.5/5 Story: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 I agree that the production value on this short set apart from the rest in this heat, but the story somewhat was confusing at certain points. The camerawork was excellent, in the sense it actually helped the film to be scary (like that one shot exploding the traumatic experience the main protagonist feels). A dark but beautiful aesthetic. I love horror in this interrelationship of keeping with contemporary conventions but dialling up that knob a few notches to create something cohesively impressive, and at times frightening. Perhaps one of my favourite horror shorts this year. Not Bad.

Technically, visually and acting wise this film was superb but like the other reviewers I found the story slightly confusing. Vic goes into a trance surrounded by chanting, occult figures and candles. She confronts another girl that was wonderfully creepy, thanks to some brilliant editing work, and then is chased down by the girl but at the same time the cultists are being killed off by a blacked out figure. Didn't understand the relationship between the two scenes, but a stunning looking film nonetheless

This film literally made me jump - not even joking. Really strong performances, great use of locations, and pretty camerawork too! Another good film from Hybrid Motion Pictures!

Horror is a very hard genre to do these days and seeing this teams given genre, honestly did not give me high hopes for them. But they proved me wrong. This film had some great cinematography and editing that gave off such a creepy atmosphere. I wasn't always clear on what was going on but I was drawn to it. Well done guys. Very nicely done.

We've never had horror, but we've thought about what we'd do, I'd like to hope we'd have the balls to do something like Paralysis. Hybrid are one of the more reliable teams in the competitions and this was no exception. Hats off for nailing Horror. It was a real horror, not a jokey or overly gory or even jumpy short, it got under my skin and stayed there! Nailed it. Top work team.
