Projects aren't embedded in the local system and can easily be transfered and even reconnected with source material at the other end. External hot swappable array systems are the norm so don't get your bottleneck issues. Sure a usb drive is not ideal lol. You cant open old FCP projects but just keep 7 installed for opening old projects. I am running both and using x just for projects I am starting from scratch and it is definitely different. The new version of motion still opens the previous versions. They may come up with a conversion tool but I really don't think it is the end of the world.
I am a professional editor (broadcast material for TVNZ) and am giving it a go and so far most of the negative hype is exactly that. Wont be deleting the previous version for some time but pushing forward with X will great results so far.

I don't think people are giving fcpx a fair chance I have been playing with it and it is rather good. A lot of the bad reviews are completely off base. Things like not being able to share projects... Completely wrong. Not being able to set scratch disks also totally false!! It is great it keeps all your captured files in one tidy location with your project on your selected drive. It is great you can import native footage straight from your camera start editing immediately and it optimizes to ProRes for you in the background will auto sync multi cams and audio feeds (ie from my zoom h4n) totally replaces the need for the likes of plural eyes. As soon as they add some of the missing things like multi cam ( easy to work around in the meantime) it will be a great package. It is very different but give it a decent chance it is really quite good.

A Musical that while it had some nice camerawork and some amazing songs had average acting and a very basic story line
Assume that is our film you are talking about "Well Strung" - Well we won best Actors against some stiff competition so think that is a little off base.
Somehow between Taranaki and Auckland our film went from 1080P to standard def - was quite disappointed... think it was at the Taranaki management end. Was really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen in HD.

Are all the grand finalists eligible for the various prizes ie best Cinematography Or only the ones nominated for that category in the city finals?

I think musical with the wrong team would be REALLY hard. We got it but had the perfect team for it couldn't have gone better. Ended up a musical dance rom com. I think each team would have their own idea of hardest genre. I would have said musical but not now.
