c0ina, your video ruled.
Great story, great editing, great cinematography
amazing performances by the "motivational speaker" and the girlfriend
good music underpinning it and a pretty touching overall message.
I especially liked the shot of Nicky coming home
and racking focus to his reflection and back.
I think my only gripe is that, as good as it was,
the subject matter didn't particularly grip me
(it wasn't robotic sharks shooting fireballs at alien octopuses).
Hardly a legitimate gripe, though.
I caught your production stills on FB and it looked like quite a production indeed. :-)

Nice work on Surcease! I added a review just to get an Alan Tudyk comparison in - the existing reviews had already done a great job of pointing out the many strengths of the short.

thanks heaps everyone :D
the leaflet was easy to make - we only made one hero prop and the rest were just bg versions done quickly with a vivd rather than cut out.
the idea came from one of our writers who had seen these on stewart island http://www.pukeariki.com/Heritage/SpotlightontheHeritageCollection/id/210/title/leaf-postcard.aspx
and that's actually the second alan tudyk comparison that has been made today! have to admit i had never thought of it before but now that people are pointing it out i can't un-see it!

Here is my short which should be safe for work, unless you would be embarrassed to be seen watching a musical at work.

Spy thriller comedy musical Spy Tunes, by The Cardboard Hoarders.
4 stars out of 5 from Wellington's most prolific reviewer, steelpotato.
It was top ranked in our heat.
It's our best film yet and contains absolutely no boring parts!
