You could probably just save yourself 24 hours by being more critical of the script then couldn't you?

I could... true... but I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that "hindsight" always allows me to see what I should have done with the current 48 hours.

I'm liking the idea of 3 months to make a feature.
The trouble with that is finding someone crazy enough to run it.

Instead of heats you could run the thing like a film festival.

So you all want the easy way out huh? well not me.
keep it at 48 hours period! (actually exclaimation mark if you want to quibble)
I can just see all the complaints.. but i can't take the extra day off work... ya de ya de ya..
not only that but if you had a 48 and a 72 running the same weekend you'd have to have a whole extra set of genres and such otherwise the 48 hour tough guys would get a sneak peak.. Yeah yeah yeah then run it to the monday.. but i can't take monday off, no fair sob sob sob..
7 years and it's been 48 hours, a few more and it'll become a cultural icon..
I know, before that happens lets totally fuck with a winning combination..
Not only that but let's make the job even harder for the sweat monkies running the show..
You guys seem to want to turn the 100 meter dash into the 70 meter trot, with tea and bikkies at the 50 yard line with a gentle stroll to the finish.. sheeesh guys where's your balls ! (ladies insert your own euphamism)
No thank you... 48 rules!

I've done it for 7 years, that is why I want Ant to up the ante [sic].
As good as some of the films turn out, they are also very emblematical of '48Hours' - which isn't the kind of iconic you were alluding to.

Wasn't there a sub-group of 48hours (24 hours) once upon a time?
Two films to be handed in, one at 24 hours and then a second film 24 hours later?
Or am I hallucinating?

Sounds like a good hallucination.
I much prefer the idea of 24 hours to 72. Too many polished films already.
Plus, with 24 hours, you don't need to change anything for the rest of the comp, just spend the first 24 hours not making a film.

You could have ipod/smartphone apps for "kill this movie now" and if more than 80% of the audience pushes it, the film is flushed and we're on to the next film.
I like this concept muchly!
It's kind of like a Funny or Die.com where you can murder or reward films.
Bringing your concept to a theatre of people would be a 'way cool' (and exciting) way to add tension and nervousness to teams. It also teaches film makers to grab the attention of audiences early in a film, otherwise risk being cut if they waffle and drag the audience through the first minute or so.
Post Note: I'm not meaning apply this to the V48Hrs competition.

But the idea has merits.
Discuss the Killer App.

I don't like it because it doesn't take into account a number of factors that could come up at a heat, for instance imagine that one of the bigger teams is at the end of the heat so they just shut everyone down so they can watch their own short and leave.
Also how can the audience favorite work if no films are actually watched in their entirety or for that matter how can any of the films be judged or reviewed when most of them are just thrown away.
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe some heats would be respectful and let all the films run all the way through but if you aren't prepared to sit through all the films why even go to the heat.

You've got a point Craig, it wouldn't work. Unless we left it up to a panel of 10 judges who are the only ones with the God buttons. Though then you would have to screen the judges behind hurricane netting to avoid the lobbed bottles from disgruntled theatre patrons.
