Google is your friend. Use it if you have questions.
The examples below are just examples.

#1 The Crime Movie
- Heist (Inside Man)
- Gangster (Goodfellas)
- Detective (Dirty Harry)
- Legal (12 Angry Men)
- Thriller (Se7en)
- Film Noir (Sin City)

#2 The Action/ Adventure Movie
- Cliffhanger (Raiders of The Lost Ark)
- Urban - (Fast & Furious)
- Hyper-kinetic (Wanted)
- Goonies (Quest)

#3 The Techno Thriller Movie
- End of the World (Wargames, Fail Safe)
- Beat the System (Hackers, Sneakers)
- Corporate (Antitrust)
- Messing w/ Mother Nature (Andromeda Strain)
- Equipment (Firefox, Hunt Red October)

#4 The Converging Storyline Movie
(This is the movie that has 2 or more storylines that end up intersecting at some stage. It can be used in any genre)
- Sociopolitical (Crash)
- Party (Go)
- Thriller (Vantage Point)
- Character (Short Cuts)
- RomCom (Love Actually)

#5 The Horror Movie
You know the score. You can kill this.
- Comedy (Shaun of the Dead)
- Slasher (Friday 13th)
- Psychological (Replusion)
- Haunted House (The Legend of Hell House)
- Possession (Exorcist)
- Splatter (Bad Taste)

#6 The Musical Movie
Oh noes where is our dance movie backup? Well listen up, things just got real. You can't sing? Then rap. You can't create music, then beatbox. You have no pitch, autotune baby. No excuses. Embrace this genre and just dive in.
- Rock Opera (Tommy)
- Period (Grease)
- Bollywood (any)
- Highschool (Fame)
- Comedy (South Park)

#7 The Reunion Movie
These films all revolve around a reunion and/or gathering of sorts. Time can be a brutal or wonderful thing depending on the paths we go down.
- Highschool (Diner Romy & Michelles Highschool Reunion)
- Timetravel (Peggy Sue Got Married)
- Funeral (Big Chill, Garden State)
- Crime (Gross Point Blank)

#8 The Non Dialogue Movie
(Except for the compulsory line of dialogue - that is the only line a character can say. Though you could subtitle it. Or you could use it in narration, or have it occur offscreen. Think outside the box. This is different from a Silent Movie with dialogue cards & piano score. We really are after a great story told visually.
- Trippy (Koyaanisqatsi, Samsara)
- Anthropological (Quest for Fire)
- Futuristic (Le Dernier Combat)
- Slapstick/Observational (Jacques Tati)

#9 The Robot or Cyborg or Android Movie
What's the difference you ask? Robots are fully mechanical. Cyborgs are half-flesh, half man. Androids are machines that appear human. We've all seen a lot of these films. How do you be original in a genre that always seems to mine the same material?
- Action (Terminator)
- Kids (Short Circuit)
- Horrror (Demon Seed)
- Comedy (Cherry 2000)
- Futuristic (AI)
- Thriller (I, Robot)

#10 The Obsessive Relationship Movie
These usually take time to build in a feature, so you're going to have to think creatively and use smart editing to get this across in a short format)
- Dark Comedy (Cable Guy)
- Erotic Thriller (Basic Instinct)
- Your Doppleganger (Single White Female)
- Dark Drama (Betty Blue)
- Thriller (Sleeping with the Enemy)
- Family (Whatever Happened to Baby Jane)

#11 The Race Against The Clock Movie
The perfect 48 genre. This is exactly what it sounds like.
- Thriller (Speed)
- The Race (Canonball Run)
- Madman on Loose (Blown Away)
- Destiny (High Noon)

#12 The Immobolised Movie
Different from the One Room movie where you MUST stay in one small location, this one just has your lead character immobilised somehow.
ie Stuck in one place. However smart writers will think of ways to have fun with this and either expand or contract the premise. It usually lends itself to be a thriller but don't feel obliged to do so.
Examples - (Rear Window, 127 Hours, Lifeboat, Cube, Phonebooth, Buried)
